CAM is a growing World War II aviation history organization that offers visitors a rare, hands-on opportunity to experience the personal stories, aircraft, and artifacts of the era, and to engage with Museum volunteers as they work to restore a B-17 Flying Fortress to airworthiness.  While the last B-17 came off the production line on July 28, 1945, interest in, and passion for, this classic aircraft remains intense.  Of the 12,731 built, about fifty examples are known and only a precious few remain airworthy.

Those remaining airplanes still command an audience, and CAM is proud to be one of the few organizations which maintain, operate, and restore this iconic aircraft.   Visitors can get closer to the restoration process than in most other museums, and CAM volunteers try to ensure everyone is welcomed and given personal attention.

Equally important, CAM provides Living History Flight Experiences (LHFE) with its B-25 Champaign Gal, giving passengers the experience of the sights, sounds, and smells of flying like a WWII crew member.   Passengers tell us of their family’s personal connection to the B-25, the Army Air Corps, a relative who flew or fought in WWII, and of family members who built airplanes or had other war industry jobs.   Hearing such meaningful stories brought forth by a flight or a visit to our Museum truly allows CAM to fulfill its mission of Touching Lives by Restoring History.

As the owner and operator of large, vintage aircraft, CAM truly understands the responsibility of building, flying, and maintaining them.   Keeping our eyes forward, in a few years the major assembly of B-17 Champaign Lady  will begin.  With a wingspan of 103 feet, the airplane will require a significant amount of floor space.  As it did in 2019, the Museum must expand and fundraising for our next building expansion is underway!  Be part of the history that is alive and accessible to all at CAM.  Thank you for your support.
