Capital Campaign for  the
Champaign Aviation Museum:
Building Expansion for Learning & Exhibits

After a multi-year Capital Campaign and with many thanks to your generous support, we have raised over $1.91M to expand the Champaign Aviation Museum for learning and exhibits through the construction of an  additional 120’ x 170’ hangar building!  This will provide essential area for the imminent wing attachments of the Museum’s B-17 Champaign Lady restoration project and new opportunities to create educational programming about the aircraft metalworking and machining done by the hard-working men and women of the Greatest Generation.

We will also be able to add new educational displays highlighting World War II Veterans and their experiences while fighting to preserve our freedom, as well as the experiences of those on the home front during WWII.  Additionally, the new hangar will provide more storage area for future donations of aircraft, and increased workspace for the maintenance of our operational vintage aircraft in a public space so that visitors can observe and learn directly from our volunteers.                                                 From the first delivery of steel in April to the erection of the hangar building frame in August, excellent and timely progress is being made daily by the skilled building crew.  We are now in the final stages of bringing the new building to life with the installation of LED lighting, heating, and other interior items.  We look forward to welcoming you into the new space very soon and celebrating our success together as a community!

The project capstone is to complete the pavement for the connecting ramp to the airfield, enabling full access to the new building from Grimes Field.  We are thankful for your support to have helped the Museum raise the additional $70,000 to pave the way for continued progress!
